The short answer
Setting up IPTV on any device takes three steps. Install a player app from the device's official app store. Enter the login details your provider sends. Then check the guide's time zone and test a channel. What changes from device to device is which apps are available and where the settings live.
Before you start
- Know your login type. Your provider will send either an Xtream Codes API login (server address, username, password), an M3U playlist link, or instructions to activate a TV app by its device code or MAC address. Check that your chosen app accepts that type: see matching the login type to the app.
- Update the device. Install system updates first, and restart.
- Use official app stores. Install apps from the device's own store wherever possible. Avoid boxes or apps sold as already “loaded” with channels; the Intellectual Property Office says devices adapted to stream illicit content are illegal, and some have failed safety standards.
- Keep your login private. Type it into the app yourself. Nobody setting up a player needs your bank details or your passwords for other services.
Amazon Fire TV
General guidance from official documentation. Not tested on this device by IPTV UK Guide; menu names vary by model and software version.
Check your model first. Amazon announced in September 2025 that the Fire TV Stick 4K Select is the first device to run Vega OS, a new system built on Linux components, rather than the Android-based Fire OS. Which apps you can install depends on which system you have, so look up your model under Settings before choosing a player.
- Open the Amazon Appstore on the Fire TV and search for a player that accepts your login type.
- Install it, open it and choose the option to add a playlist or an Xtream Codes login.
- Enter the details exactly as sent, including capitals and the full server address.
- Let the channel list and guide load, then play a channel.
Apps from outside the Appstore. Amazon's developer documentation for Fire OS describes a “Developer Options” menu with a setting called “Apps from Unknown Sources”. It is aimed at app developers. On Vega OS devices, Amazon says Developer Mode needs an Amazon developer account and restarts the device. Installing apps from outside the official store means you rely entirely on the app's publisher for safety and updates. We do not recommend it unless you know who publishes the app and trust them.
Android TV and Google TV
General guidance from official documentation. Not tested on this device by IPTV UK Guide; menu names vary by model and software version.
This covers TVs and boxes that use Google Play on the TV. Several players are built for this kind of screen. TiviMate's publisher, for example, says its app is “intended for Android TV devices”.
- Open Google Play on the TV and install a player that accepts your login type.
- Open the player and add your Xtream Codes login or M3U link. Add the guide (EPG) link too if your provider sent one separately.
- Wait for the first guide download; it can take a few minutes on large lists.
- Check the device's time zone is set to the UK under the system settings.
Free player apps often sell a paid upgrade for extra features. That upgrade goes to the app's publisher and never adds channels.
Samsung and LG smart TVs
General guidance from official documentation. Not tested on this device by IPTV UK Guide; menu names vary by model and software version.
Samsung TVs (Tizen) and LG TVs (webOS) use their makers' own app stores, and the choice of IPTV players varies by model, year and country. Some publishers, such as WHMCS Smarters, list LG and Samsung TVs as supported. Check your exact TV in its store before you pay for anything.
- Open the TV's app store (Samsung Apps or LG Content Store) and search for a player that accepts your provider's login type.
- Some TV players show a device code or MAC address instead of a login screen. You then either enter your playlist on the app's own website or send the code to your provider.
- Some TV player apps charge their own fee after a free period. That fee is separate from your subscription. Check the app before relying on it.
- Set the TV's clock to automatic, UK time zone, so the programme guide lines up.
If your TV's store has no suitable player, a separate streaming stick or box with a wider app choice is usually simpler than workarounds.
Apple TV, iPhone and iPad
General guidance from official documentation. Not tested on this device by IPTV UK Guide; menu names vary by model and software version.
Apple devices install apps only from the App Store. IPTVX, for example, lists Apple TV, iPhone, iPad and Mac versions and says it accepts Xtream API logins and M3U playlists. WHMCS Smarters offers “Smarters Player Lite” on iOS.
- Search the App Store on the device for a player that accepts your login type.
- Open it, add your login or playlist, and add a guide link if you were given one.
- Check whether premium features are an in-app purchase, and how many devices a purchase covers.
Windows and Mac
General guidance from official documentation. Not tested on this device by IPTV UK Guide; menu names vary by model and software version.
- VLC (free) plays a single stream or an M3U playlist: its documentation describes Media > Open Network Stream and entering a network URL. It does not show a programme guide.
- Kodi (free) can show live TV with a guide using the PVR IPTV Simple Client add-on, which reads an M3U playlist and an XMLTV guide.
- IPTV Smarters Pro lists Windows and macOS versions on its download site.
Download players only from the publisher's own site or your computer's official app store.
Android phones and tablets
General guidance from official documentation. Not tested on this device by IPTV UK Guide; menu names vary by model and software version.
Install from Google Play. Not every TV-focused player suits a phone: TiviMate's publisher says its app “is not optimized for phones and tablets”. VLC, IPTVX and the Smarters apps list Android phone versions. Remember that a phone playing on mobile data counts as a connection, just like a TV.
After setup
- Play a channel you know and compare it with the guide. If the guide is an hour out, see fixing guide times.
- Set a parental PIN in the player if children use the device; many players have one.
- Test at a busy evening time, with other screens in the house playing, so you see real conditions.
- Write down which devices have the login, so you know what counts against your connections.
